Pot Luck Scotch
Well…I am sure some of you have experienced a pot luck dinner or two in your life time, however, this is a wee bit different. I am getting ready to blow up my kitchen on Sunday and put in new cabinets, floor, and applicances. During the process of the many loads of dishes, food, and cook books I happened to find a stash of Scotch. I tend to do a bit of my best mad scientist scotch creating in the kitchen over the years. I found a Wild Scotsman Vatted malt proto type, cask samples of my recently released ben Nevis as well as a few other casks not to be mentioned, a few different blends I have been working on, and about 1/2 a 70cl bottle of 1988 Bladnoch Cask No. 2631. To be quite frank I have no idea why I have this 1/2 bottle. Looking at the taped label it has been a few years since i have open it. When faced with such a dilema I thought it was only fitting to get a large bucket glass and fill it. Do not worry, in Scotland this is called a “gentleman’s pour” which unlike a dram measures the distance between ones index figer and pinky finger. With one quick drop of a cube the liquid looked more like a glass of cooking oil with a very grassey nose with a hint of vanilla bean, but over all tasted like heaven.
There really is no point to this story except maybe to say that if you are even asked to help the Wild Scotsman around the house you may be treated to a priceless one of a kind experience.
Cheers,
Jeff
Someone had this to say about to “Pot Luck Scotch”
- The Wild Scotsman / Aug 26, 2007 17:25 / It has been a productive day. No, did not find any hidden bottles of scotch behind the walls. Took down all of the cabinets, molding, and paneling off of the walls. To be quite honest it is a mess of various different eras of repair work. I have dry wall, plaster, up to code electric, and not so up to code electric. We did manage to strip one wall to the studs, replace the electric boxes, pulled through new electric cable, and put new dry wall up. One wall down and two more to go! I believe it is time for a bottle of Newcastle. Cheers, Jeff
