Ohio Highland Games
I just got back this morning from the Ohio Highland Games held at the Lorain County Fair grounds on Saturday June 23, 2007. I could use a few more hours of sleep, however, someone needs to unload the van! I really enjoy going to these events and meeting people from all over the world who are either decedents of Ireland, Scotland, England, and Wales or are ex-pat’s living here in the USA. I am sure quite a few people from those countries would find it a bit odd to see a bunch of Americans wearing kilts, playing bagpipes, having pipe bands, drum corps, and playing heavy games however a huge portion on the Midwest was settled by people from those countries and traditions stay alive.
I had my tasting from 12 to 1500/hrs this year. We had Wild Scotsman 15yr and JMS Bladnoch 15yr. If I could have sold bottles right on the spot I believe we would have sold at least 5 cases (12 pk). The state of Ohio is not the best state in regards to getting small brands to the consumers, however, what the state of Ohio misses out on is the on-line ordering of the brands from both Sam’s Wine and Spirits and Binny’s Beverage Depot which are both from Chicago, IL.
The only draw back to the shows are the fact that I cannot really enjoy the games or the pipe band competitions, however, having seen a lot of Wild Scotsman t-shirts in the crowd I was quite pleased.
See you next year,
The Wild Scotsman
